World Food Summit 2017

In August 2017 the Danish Minister for Environment and Food Esben Lunde Larsen invited leading, international experts, gastronomy frontrunners, influencers and decisions makers to the World Food Summit - Better Food for More People, marking its second year running. Through the two-day summit 270 participants discussed challenges, shared best practices and specified targets to take action on through global and local partnerships.

Global food challenges are only solvable if we address and try to deal with them on an international scale. Therefore the World Food Summit – Better Food for More People for the second year in a row brought leading food producers, chefs, and government institutions together in order to create an international forum and to come up with qualified solutions. Half of the summit program was organized in breakout sessions with specific themes to focus on when coming up with qualified solutions. The breakout sessions gave smaller fora to discuss concrete solutions on the four themes for an amount of 30-40 people with relevant expertise.

Among the keynote speakers were the Minister of Food Processing Industries of India Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Head Chef of NOMA René Redzepi and the leading thinker on food and cities Carolyn Steel.

In order to underscore and anchor the relevance of providing better food for more people the World Food Summit 2017 included a series of side activities such as a Potluck, the food exhibition “Bite Copenhagen”, a case competition among students, food trips that covered aspects of food production, EMBLA - a prize for innovators.

Themes

The themes food informationfood safety, food diversity and food waste become important issues and crucial themes to bring answers to the solutions needed. The four themes are all addressed at the World Food Summit 2017. They will follow the same program structure, ensuring both evaluation of achievement from Food Summit 2016 and how the current challenges can be translated into joint goals and future actions.
